24 And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus prayed unto the Father, he came unto his disciples, and behold, they did still continue, without ceasing, to pray unto him; and they did not multiply many words, for it was given unto them what they should pray, and they were filled with desire.
25 And it came to pass that Jesus blessed them as they did pray unto him; and his countenance did smile upon them, and the light of his countenance did shine upon them, and behold they were as white as the countenance and also the garments of Jesus; and behold the whiteness thereof did exceed all the whiteness, yea, even there could be nothing upon earth so white as the whiteness thereof.
26 And Jesus said unto them: Pray on; nevertheless they did not cease to pray.
(Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 19:24 - 26)
The disciples continue to pray to Jesus. What they should pray for was being given to them by the Holy Spirit. When we are in tune with the Spirit, he will lead and guide us to truth and inspiration. I received a blessing last night from a good friend. He is a seminary teacher and a member of the bishopric in my ward. I have always been impressed with his desire to serve, and to watch as he is continually trying to do more.
Some of the medication that I’m on, since breaking my elbows, has a side affect of causing anxiety attacks, and I have had trouble sleeping lately. That is why I asked for a blessing. When I called him to ask for a blessing he said that he would be over in about twenty minutes. Since he lives only about three minutes away from me, I knew that he wanted a little time to prepare to give the blessing. In my minds eye, I saw him offering a prayer that he would pronounce the blessing that was needed.
I decided that I should follow suit and retired to my room to offer a short prayer. I prayed for him. When he arrived at my house he was wearing a white shirt and tie; it was obvious that he felt the need to look like he represented the Lord. As he placed his hands on my head and pronounced the blessing, I heard him say things that he would not have known about me. He spoke of things that were currently going on in my life, and issues that I had been struggling with, but that I hadn’t divulged to him.
It is always humbling to know when you are listening to the voice of the Spirit as it shares truth and light through worthy servants.
Coincidentally, (or not so coincidentally as the case may be) I slept better that night than I had in weeks.
Skye, thank you for being who you are. You and your family are a blessing to me and mine, and I know that you are a blessing to countless others.

Hi Christina,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blog. Tell everyone there hi from us. I'm glad that you liked the blog.

Thank you for sharing this, Dan. I, too, have felt very blessed by those in authority who have given me blessings and truly taken the time to prepare. I know that when I'm open and receptive and I prepare as well, not only is the blessing more on target, but I seem to attain the promised results much more quickly. I'm glad to hear you're doing some better.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tristi. I went to church yesterday, and many people were shocked when they saw that I no longer had any casts on.
ReplyDeleteI still have quite a ways to go still, but even my physical therapists are amazed at how quickly my arms are regaining their usefulness. I attribute it to the power of the priesthood, the blessings I have received since the accident, and the prayers of family and friends.
